luis vidal + architects is developing a vertiport concept for Bluenest, part of the international company Globalvia, shaping the future of air mobility. It is a flexible design, allowing its implementation on different scales and in various sites within the city. Three sizes are proposed (a small one, including only a raised FATO, for its implementation in cities and rooftops; and medium and large ones, with both a FATO and hangar spaces, for high-density vertiports).

As a continuation of the concentric footprint generated as a result of meeting the regulations around a VTOL, the design of this vertiport is shaped as a ring with two contact points with the ground, with folds elevated in a curve at the other two ends. It is based on the rising of the take-off platform, freeing the ground level and generating a space that adds value for the community.

The floor plan of the surrounding ring is divided into four sections. Pedestrian circulation flows along the front semicircle, with the main access placed in the middle point. The departures and arrivals flows are segregated, each to a different side, rising on a continuous belt that reaches the elevated central platform. Thus, the rear semicircle hosts a private maintenance section, together with a public one, as a meeting point between the passenger and the city.

Pittsburgh International Airport’s Terminal Modernization Program (TMP) transforms the airport into a contemporary Origin & Destination gateway that reflects the identity, values, and ambitions of the Pittsburgh region. Designed by Gensler + HDR in association with luis vidal + architects, the project reimagines what a mid-sized American airport can be: efficient, inclusive, technologically advanced, and deeply rooted in place.

Guided by the concept of NaTeCo, Nature, Technology, and Community, the design draws inspiration from Western Pennsylvania’s rolling hills, wooded landscapes, industrial heritage, and culture of innovation. This vision is expressed through the new landside terminal, where an undulating roofline evokes the region’s topography and intuitively organizes the building. Peaks accommodate major programmatic elements such as check-in and security, while valleys create moments of calm and transition. Exposed, tree-like steel columns and constellation lighting inspired by Pittsburgh’s Appalachian night skies create a warm, memorable interior defined by clarity, comfort, and a strong sense of place.

The TMP significantly simplifies the passenger journey by consolidating landside and airside operations into a single connected facility. This reduces curb-to-gate travel time by approximately 50% and international arrivals-to-curb time by 67%, while an expanded security checkpoint improves efficiency and passenger flow. Accessibility and inclusion are embedded throughout the terminal, with features such as inclusive restrooms, companion care rooms, quiet rooms, nursing facilities, adult changing tables, and Presley’s Place, a sensory-friendly suite designed for travelers with autism and sensory sensitivities.

Rare among U.S. airports, outdoor terraces on both the pre- and post-security sides introduce fresh air, landscape, and moments of respite into the travel experience. These spaces deepen the project’s connection to nature while strengthening the relationship between architecture and its environment.

The project also strengthens PIT’s civic and environmental role. Targeting LEED Gold certification, the new terminal is powered by an industry-first microgrid combining on-site solar energy and natural gas. Together, these strategies position Pittsburgh International Airport as a resilient, welcoming, and future-focused front door to the region.

A new stage has begun for the Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport in Santiago de Chile. At the forefront of transport infrastructure, the design of the most important airport investment in the country fell into the hands of luis vidal + architects in association with ADPi. The result is an airport prepared to receive up to 5,000 passengers per hour.

The new international terminal building is equipped with a modern control access and four piers. These act as a border between the landside and the airside. The retail, food and beverage areas are evenly distributed throughout them.

The design not only improves the visibility of the stores, by making the flow of travellers pass in front of them, but it also doubles the retail space, reaching 193,750 square feet. The VIP lounges of the airlines are strategically distributed along the halls so that the distance to the boarding gates is not excessive for this type of traveller.

Between the new control and the current Terminal 1 building, there are two covered parking lots with a capacity for more than 3,000 parking spaces. The roof of both parking lots is used as a large, raised welcome square, where the landscaping is the main protagonist.

A variety of sources inspire color design in this country, always at the service of the user: the landscapes, geography, flora and fauna of Chile, as well as the rich craftsmanship of its native people.

Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport is an essential infrastructure in the United States, being one of the largest connectivity nodes in the region and the 2nd busiest airport in the world in 2022.

The intervention on Terminal D of the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) incorporates four new boarding gates, as well as a 150,700 square feet concourse to connect the original DFW terminal with the new one. The new gates house modern waiting areas and lounges, an international corridor for federal inspections and customs serving international passengers, and an extension to the baggage claim area.

luis vidal + architects have designed this space with large glass facades overlooking the airport runways, which provides a feeling of space and comfort. One of the key aspects of this technological design is the implementation of “View Glass” that allows the façade to be used as a communication tool to show flight details and announcements. This dynamic glass automatically adjusts to solar incidence to optimize access to natural light and views, thus improving the health and well-being of the user. This will reduce energy consumption in the new terminal by 15%.

This project has been made to meet the highest energy standards.

Cibao International Airport is undergoing a pioneering expansion, bringing with it a new terminal equipped with the latest airport security technology, and the transformation of the current building into a hybrid mixed-use space. The expanded area will host a raised parking area connected to the new terminal, the airport offices and a wide commercial, gastronomic, hotel and business offer, which complements the services offered by the airport itself.

The new terminal building is equipped with nine contact stands, designed on two levels to segregate the flow of departures from that of arrivals, thus optimizing the processes. Over 1.2 miles of new roads and 32,200 square feet of green areas are also incorporated. An elevated and independent access road leads to the check-in area on level 2, while another access road connects everything to the pre-existing building and the arrivals hall on level 1.

Inspired by the linearity of the harvest fields of bananas, tobacco and coffee, boundaries are blurred, and a linear and continuous landscape is being created throughout the terminal. The new design blends with the curves of the surroundings, offering an interior-exterior continuity that brings the gardens inside, emulating the vegetation shade through the materials of the interior ceilings and more than 4,000 tons of timber making up the roofing structure.

Terminal 2, The Queen’s Terminal, has become a landmark in terms of energy efficiency. It’s the world’s first airport to obtain a BREEAM Excellent rating, thanks to a design conceived to reduce CO₂ emissions by 40% through the combination and development of active and passive energy systems.

The Queen’s Terminal is developed under a roof whose three large waves emphasize the three main parts of the process passengers go through when flying: check-in, security control and boarding. Thus, function and form are integrated to favor intuitive passenger orientation. Aiming at a construction method that minimizes the impact on the facilities and the adjacent urban environment, this goal was achieved through the use of innovative solutions based on modular systems and a carefully designed construction schedule.

The waves of the roof are tilted against each other, housing skylights in their intersections, all facing North, in order to allow an important inflow of natural light, while reducing damaging solar radiation and contributing to saving energy.

Departing passengers will enjoy more than 215,280 square feet of commercial area distributed in two floors, next to the boarding gates and offering excellent views of the flight field.

This unique project has been elected Best Airport Terminal in the World (Skytrax 2018), being the first airport to obtain a BREEAM Excellent qualification. It has also been awarded as Green Design by the Chicago Athenaeum, topping a list of over 27 international awards and nominations.

The aim of the competition is to propose the necessary actions in order to adapt the facilities of Terminal Building T1 of Barcelona-El Prat Airport for the expected rising air traffic, through the construction of a new T1S Satellite Building and the associated apron in-between runways.

Both terminals are connected through a tunnel housing the Baggage Handling System (BHS) and Automated People Mover (APM) facilities.

The shape and location of the satellite building respond to an exhaustive analysis of aircraft movements on the ground floor, as well as the optimization of the space on the airside, as well as to the planned tunnel, which is the umbilical cord connecting both of the terminal buildings.

The design aims to maximize the supply of connections of the satellite, minimizing the built area in order to develop an optimal economic and functional solution that provides a generous offer of commercial areas.

The design of the Satellite Building is based on the existing Terminal 1 spaces, making it recognizable and familiar to the user in order to offer a readable and relaxed itinerary, as well as a comprehensive image of Barcelona Airport as a whole space.

The New Terminal Building (NTB) at Silvio Pettirossi International Airport is made up of a large volume on the airside and another one on the landside. However, this second piece, of mixed use, is divided as well into two pieces, separated by green patios that introduce natural light inside the building and provide passengers and users with views to the outside through fully glazed façade of a light appearance.

To reinforce the idea of the project to separate the NTB into three pieces, a concept related to the passenger experience is proposed: the creation of a series of solid and glass façades that guide the natural process of the journey. The façades integrate elements of traditional Guaraní culture inspired by ao po’i embroidery.

The roof has a modular system that makes following extensions easy without changing the construction system and with minimal disruption to operations. These modules are inspired by Guaraní feather headdresses, curving like these to increase their structural efficiency. The columns are shaped after the letter “Y”, like the word “water” in Guaraní.

The colors of the jungle are taken onto the outer deck with a predominance of green as the base colour and brightly-coloured elements marking the access points to the terminal and the successive processes in the passenger journey. Color reinforces intuitive orientation.

luis vidal + architects has planned a complete renovation of Las Americas International Airport, alongside with its new Control Tower.

The new design combines innovative architecture together with sustainability, functionality and commodity, taking into consideration all its users’ needs. It offers the best possible passenger experience, while considering a future growth of up to 7.5 M pax/year.

The proposal maintains the terminal “footprint”, redesigning its main spaces and creating new ones while, at the same time, opening the façade in order to allow the entry of natural light.

BWI Marshall is moving into this new and exciting phase by making major improvements to the airport terminal infrastructure enhancing and upgrading the airport facilities. One of the key elements for this is the new Air Traffic Control Tower (ATCT) that improves safety and enhances airport experience for both passengers and airlines.

The ATCT rises into the sky, transforming the horizon and becoming the icon of the new identity of BWI Marshall airport. This iconic infrastructure stands as a powerful image of the future challenges of BWI Marshall airport carrying ad representing its values: a technological tower that will be not only functional but cost effective, recognizable and sustainable.

That was the real challenge for our team: to design together the shape of the future for BWI. With exquisite functional planning and addressing every constraint, every requirement, the ATCT not only complements and upgrades the terminal but accompanies it in its growth as an integral part of the airport.

In short, BWI Marshall new ATCT will have the shape of the future, combining innovation with performance, development with sustainability, cost efficiency with quality, identity with functionality and technology with emotion.

As design architects, responsible for the vision and concept of the modernization of Terminal E at Logan International Airport, luis vidal + architects worked alongside architects of record AECOM to produce a solution that not only gives Boston a new gateway to the world, but that promises to set a lofty standard for airports everywhere. One of the most ambitious projects to date from the Massachusetts Port Authority, the transformation of Terminal E entailed sweeping renovations to the international departures hall as well as to the immigration and customs areas, adding a sky-lit ceiling that maximizes natural light while reducing energy consumption. Intuitive wayfinding, spatial clarity, and a masterful use of color transform the experience for those leaving or entering the country through Logan.

From the exterior, the new facility is distinguished by its dynamic roofline, designed to parallel the path of the sun and featuring two bands of north-facing windows, each one an eyelash-like ellipse that protects the building interior from direct sunlight. To the south, the traffic and circulation deck flows gently alongside the curved volume, affording visitors a memorable view of the downtown skyline in the distance. Cementing the connection with the city is the structure’s bold use of “Boston Red”: created for the project by Vidal at Swiss laboratory Monopol, the vivid, prismatic color changes in hue across the façade, fading from crimson to orange like an autumn sunset on the scenic harbor.

An Executive Airport or Fixed Base Operator (FBO) is a complex of airport buildings of various scales where the passenger experience is significantly different to that of the traditional, bigger airport terminals. It is neither a building, a terminal, nor a multifunctional complex. It is a brand new landscape. The envisioned project is a passenger-oriented and highly functional facility integrated within its environment, where nature is an asset. Both the terminal and the hangars can be specifically designed to make this experience memorable.

In order to achieve this differential value, the design aims at a strong “sense of place”. It also enhances human scale, balancing the enclosure of this vast area with a design that is highly legible on a passenger scale. Taking advantage of the short sequence of time from the arrival to the moment of departure enriches passenger experience.

The passenger’s intuitive wayfinding is targeted by opening views to the airside, enabling the passenger to directly access the apron. Together with close-up views of hangars and airplanes, a passenger experience comparable to the pioneering aviation era is created.

Designed as a sequence of four curved roofs evoking the nearby rolling hills, the facility accommodates three hangars, a terminal building, three office buildings, a flight school, a maintenance and garage building, a fuel farm, two parking areas, and a new apron area. Coherence and consistency are thus created by the connection of the passenger terminal to the hangars, and the visual connection of all buildings to the landside and their natural surroundings, thus blending the facility with the existing landscape.

The modernization of the existing terminal building at Cyril E. King Airport adds a second level, segregating the arrival and departure flows, and significantly improving the passenger experience, concessions offer and airport revenues.

A glazed bridge parallel to the building connects the existing one-level terminal with the new terminal through two new Vertical Circulation Cores (VCC). Moreover, four new jet bridges are connected to the second-level corridor, allowing passengers to board the planes directly along the northern side of the apron.

This space will work as a sterile corridor, keeping the departure and arrival flows separated as per the requirements of Customs & Border Protection (CBP) for the U.S. Virgin Islands territory.
A separate pavilion on the terminal’s southern side, devoted to USVI inter-island flights, will allow the refurbishment of a strategic section of the existing first level, including the construction of a new BHS system. In a later phase, this wing will be connected to the second level in order to host international departures and arrivals.

The new departure hall offers all passengers stunning views of the sea and the island’s lush landscape upon completion of the second level. Moreover, a color study has been conducted to enhance the sense of place in the new terminal building and allows the differentiation of the external vertical core-cladding panels and roof skylights inspired by the local vegetation and the Atlantic Ocean.

Pensacola is a unique city in the United States for its rich historical legacy and its solid balance between tradition and modernity. Its beautiful beaches are just one of its many attractions, which have made it a valuable destination. Its airport must respond to this dynamism, with a new terminal designed by luis vidal + architects and EXP. This project provides 5 new boarding gates and additional concessions space that elevates the passenger experience.

The heart of the project is the concourse, a new plaza of hold rooms where passengers won’t feel held anymore. An open floorplan and visual connection to the boarding gates through all the concessions area achieve this, letting the passengers enjoy them while waiting for the boarding process, and having a direct impact on the airport’s revenue. This plaza is also equipped with various types of seating, including working stations, electric plugs, and a QR connection to all businesses around.

Shaped by the sun and inspired by the dunes, the roof is designed after a careful analysis of the solar path and incidence, with volumes inspired by the local dunes, intersecting in skylights to the north that result in a more efficient building and a more comfortable stay.

Just as old and new meet in Pensacola, the existing airport facilities meet the new construction through a corridor on the eastern side. This positioning simplifies the passenger flow, reducing the number of turns and decision points, and resulting in shorter walking distance and a more intuitive wayfinding. An enhanced passenger experience that imprints the essence of Pensacola on them. A first welcome and a last goodbye to the city.

The project for the new transport hub in Vilnius is based on the elaboration of a comprehensive urban strategy for the surroundings of the train station and the design of a new bus station for medium and long-distance travel, refurbishing the existing train station to adapt it to the new railway network and the arrival of local, national and international trains.

The masterplan for the station’s backdrop is centered on enhancing the landscape surrounding the railways to join the neighborhoods located on both sides of the tracks.

The program for the new transport hub prioritizes pedestrians, generating new public spaces in front of the station by taking the bus station underground and establishing new pedestrian connections over the tracks between their North and South sides.

The new station acts as a footbridge between the North and South neighborhoods, hosting the railway operations program, with hallways for international trains and spaces facing the city from where local and regional trains depart. In the latter, access control is carried out on the platform itself.

When architecture acts on historical buildings, it becomes responsible for the memory and identity of the place in which it is intervening.

luis vidal + architects has completely refurbished a 19th-century building located in the center of Santiago de Chile, carefully restoring and recovering it piece by piece. At the same time, its proposal included the design and construction of a new building within the existing plot (the General Healthcare Clinic – CESFAM), which aimed to establish a dialogue with the heritage building (a community center now), combining tradition and modernity.

The heart of the project lies in the dialogue between the two buildings that make up the Matta Sur Complex, the old one and the new one, through a homogeneous architectural language based on rhythm, materiality and spatiality. The design of the new building is respectful and discreet to enhance the original building. As a result of this dialogue, a new public space, the plaza, arises as a connecting element between the two centers.

The Matta Sur complex has a program that came out from neighbors’ surveys and is the answer to the challenge of the cities of the future and to what today’s societies need most urgently: more public spaces where neighbors can co-exist, share, be connected, and foster a sense of community. A project that, having been nominated and won on over ten occasions since its opening, keeps getting the attention of media and users worldwide.

Designed to serve as the primary health infrastructure of the province, creating a node of knowledge, innovation and health. The architectural design solves the challenge of merging two existing public infrastructures into a new public-private building.

It is one of the largest hospitals in Europe. It is conceived from the patient’s well-being point of view: curative architecture based on sunlit spaces and therapeutic gardens as elements to diminish stress.

The building is on a hillside just outside the city of Vigo and takes advantage of the slope to gain a privileged position in the field, integrating with the landscape. A clear division of the hospital’s program is created. In the lower part, there is a stone base hosting the outpatient area, above which there is a large garden and public space with all main accesses to the Hospital. The six hospitalization blocks seem to be flying over this base, allowing great views of both the valley and the garden for the inpatients. The inpatient area for diagnosis and treatment is on the highest floor, with specialized and emergency access.

The element connecting the whole complex is a large glass volume that hosts all vertical and horizontal communications for medical staff, patients and visitors, as well as facilities and supplies.

Referential Design: Valode & Pistre.

The Health Service’s commission was to refurbish and extend the existing public Hospital into a new Healthcare Complex, tripling the healthcare area and taking advantage of the change to transform how the staff works, thus achieving a highly efficient hospital. The construction and funding of this project are made through a concession scheme in which health services have public management while non-health services have private management. During the construction phase, we conducted a follow-up work of consultation and technical control of the concessionaire to ensure the quality of the hospital.

The design was conceived to mimic Ibiza’s local architecture by using a fragmented construction that introduced white as the predominant color; despite being the largest building on the island, it is still an integrated part of the surroundings. The building extension doubles the existing surface area, housing all healthcare services, while the existing building is refurbished to house supplies and logistics facilities, freeing up ample space for future expansion and other uses.

Can Misses Hospital has been chosen Best Public Service Architecture in the European Property Awards.

This new educational and health campus will be located in the heart of Pueblo Bávaro, a mixed-use area of approximately 5.4M square feet. The project’s first phase will develop the design of a master plan to offer a solution that will lead to an innovative solution model that will serve as a reference for the entire Dominican Republic.

The concept of the project is about carrying out a unique and ambitious idea, joining in an unprecedented model of different uses: health, training and information, within a framework of shared and innovative development, which allows a harmonious coexistence of the various services and transforming the space into an urban catalyst of the environment: a Clinic Express or Primary Care Center under the “walk-in clinic” model; a General Hospital Center; a hub that groups the Medical Offices, Laboratory and Pharmacy; and a stand-alone Convention Center.

The resulting layout aims to show a homogeneous image of the intervention, structured along axes, flexible and contemplating the possibility of future growth. In addition, it seeks to create a sustainable and profitable service, proposing a functional, feasible, atypical model that provides added value to its environment, which stands out for its excellence and is, above all, profitable.

This newly built hospital is the first of a new type of hospital for the 21st Century, based on two main concepts within healthcare architecture. “Curative architecture” focuses on the patient’s well-being through careful architectural and interior design studies. Analyzing key aspects such as natural lighting and the creation of therapeutic gardens. Plus, the “Airport Hospital” concept, developed through the relevant experience that our team has gained in airport design, applies a methodology dedicated to the reduction of passenger stress and an improvement of the experience through optimized circulation, spatially explicit routes, and visual connections between the different areas within the building.

This strategy contributes to creating an efficient hospital with a modular scheme that allows for future extensions and maximum flexibility. It is well-connected and has segregated routes for flows of different natures, such as staff vs. patients, thus optimizing facilities and minimizing redundant areas, achieving a recognizable image and an integrated building. The building is organized along a central spine, which connects six different satellite buildings of different sizes and colors, helping the user to orientate within the building and to create clear and identifiable spaces.

Regarding environmental responsibility, sustainable strategies have been implemented in all design phases, applying both passive and active measures for controlling energy consumption and minimizing environmental impact.

The construction of the new Cauquenes Hospital is part of a network of three health infrastructures of medium complexity, which will all serve the area of influence of the Cauquenes, Constitución and Parral provinces. They will work under the jurisdiction of the Maule Health Service within the homonymous region. The new Cauquenes hospital will serve 60,000 people in roughly 439,156 square feet, with 136 beds, three operating rooms, 25 consultation rooms, an emergency service, diagnostic and therapeutic support services, and administrative and industrial support areas.

The building is developed from North to South, following a “double comb-shape” typology that takes advantage of the existing slope of the plot. The primary access and public circulations are located alongside the East axis (on the upper level), while the internal circulations are to the West (on the lower level). All other units are located across this axis, with ER to the North and General Services and supplies to the South. The segregation of these circulations results in functional, operational and energetic efficiency.

A series of active and passive measures have also been implemented to guarantee energy efficiency: sun breakers, Low-E glass, solar panels and native vegetation with low water consumption, among others. In addition, given the high risk of seismic activity in the country, seismic isolators have been incorporated to ensure the regular operation of the hospital in the event of a catastrophe.

The Cauquenes Hospital goes a step further, creating public spaces for citizens and using color to integrate the building into the city as a landmark. Cauquenes is known for its wine cultivation and pottery tradition, so red and ochre tones have been chosen to distinguish the proposal, acting as a catalyst for the improvement of the municipality’s urban, economic and social life.

The Constitución Hospital will serve 57,573 people from the Constitución and Empedrado communities, with an estimated area of 403,797 square feet. It will have the capacity for 111 beds, three pavilions, 22 consultation rooms, emergency care services, diagnostic and therapeutic support, and administrative and industrial support services to meet the demand for healthcare in the area.

According to the current community regulatory plan, the new Constitución Hospital is located on Río Maule Street and next to the Copihue Village. The site has an area of 788,000 square feet, adjoining to the north with Calle Prieto, Arnoldo Opazo and Forestal Arauco S.A. To the south with other property owners and Villa Verde One. To the east with a free plot and to the west with Maule Street.

The site is located at 129 meters above sea level. Concerning the topography, it is a vast plot, characterized by irregular topographic conditions, with a notable downward slope from Rio Maule Street to Prieto Street. Significant ravines are observed at the bottom of the site, which follow the natural condition of the terrain, with height differences of approximately 20 m. The portion of land parallel to Rio Maule Street has the most favorable topographic condition compared to the rest of the site.

Taking advantage of these conditions, the building is developed from North to South, organizing itself as a spine, integrating concepts of functional, operational and energy efficiency.

The Parral Hospital will serve 58,392 people from the Parral and Retiro communities, with an estimated area of 422,515 square feet. It will have the capacity for 121 beds, three pavilions, 22 consultation rooms, emergency care services, diagnostic and therapeutic support, and administrative and industrial support services to meet the demand for healthcare in the area.

The new Parral Hospital will be located on Route L-84, Camino a Catillo Nº 420, Commune of Parral, Maule Region. It corresponds to the Urban Expansion Zone ZE-2, according to the Community Regulatory Plan, in force since 1990, and allows the construction of health establishments.

The site has an area of 581,790 square feet, bordering to the Northeast with Villa Pilar Dos, Calle Dos and Camino Publico a Catillo. To the Southeast, with land owned by Graciela Concha Benavente. To the Southwest, with two plots, one owned by Sociedad Fuente Concha Limitada and the other by Graciela Concha Benavente. To the Northwest, with Calle Doctor Mario Mujica and Villa Pilar Dos.

The land is located 939 meters above sea level. Concerning the topography, it has a predominantly flat morphology and without noticeable differences in level.

Taking advantage of these conditions, the building is developed from North to South, organizing itself as a spine, integrating concepts of functional, operational and energy efficiency.

When architecture acts on historical buildings, it becomes responsible for the memory and identity of the place in which it is intervening.

luis vidal + architects has completely refurbished a 19th-century building located in the center of Santiago de Chile, carefully restoring and recovering it piece by piece. At the same time, its proposal included the design and construction of a new building within the existing plot (the General Healthcare Clinic – CESFAM), which aimed to establish a dialogue with the heritage building (a community center now), combining tradition and modernity.

The heart of the project lies in the dialogue between the two buildings that make up the Matta Sur Complex, the old one and the new one, through a homogeneous architectural language based on rhythm, materiality and spatiality. The design of the new building is respectful and discreet to enhance the original building. As a result of this dialogue, a new public space, the plaza, arises as a connecting element between the two centers.

The Matta Sur complex has a program that came out from neighbors’ surveys and is the answer to the challenge of the cities of the future and to what today’s societies need most urgently: more public spaces where neighbors can co-exist, share, be connected, and foster a sense of community. A project that, having been nominated and won on over ten occasions since its opening, keeps getting the attention of media and users worldwide.

Obtaining the first LEED Platinum certification in the world for the integrated campus of Loyola University means the culmination of a complete dedication to one of the design typologies that assumes great responsibility for an architect: hosting the personal and spiritual development of human beings in a crucial stage of their youth.

When Loyola University commissioned luis vidal + architects to design the first private university in Andalusia, the Latin root of the word “universatis” marked the starting point of a project that now dives into its second phase: universality, integration. To achieve this, one of the practice’s characteristic architectural values was decisive: flexibility. Inaugurated before Covid-19 is precisely the flexibility and capacity for integration that have made this campus an example of adaptation to the health and safety requirements of the pandemic, keeping the facilities functioning without post-pandemic design interventions.

Personal and spiritual development is at the heart of the architectural proposal, which is symbolically represented in the two axes that run through the campus: the longitudinal one, which extends along common spaces (classrooms, administration, cafeteria and laboratories), is for knowledge, while the transversal one, which is materialized through spaces such as the library and the chapel, stands for human and spiritual development.

A vast square is formed at the intersection of the axes, a public meeting space inspired by traditional Andalusian architecture that imagines these spaces as prosperous social centers.

The quality of a design is also a reflection of elements that are not strictly architectural, but absolutely necessary. In this case, the Botín Center reflects the successful collaboration between two architects with a common language: Luis Vidal and Renzo Piano.

The result of this successful collaboration, where light, flexibility, transparency and dialogue with the city generate a beautiful synergy, is a design that has transformed the city of Santander, bringing the historic center and its centenary gardens closer to the bay, where the Botín Center is located.

The building hangs over the land, suspended over the sea. It is composed of two volumes, in response to the need to create an art center and an informative programmatic space, including an auditorium conceived as a multifunctional box, capable of hosting concerts, conferences and creative events such as workshops.

A series of light steel and glass walkways separate the two rounded volumes of the building, creating a new public square located above sea level.

The Botín Center manages to capture the sunlight intensely, the water’s brightness and Cantabria’s unique atmosphere. An architectural symphony at the foot of the Atlantic Ocean.

The new spaces for teaching and faculty use at building A of the Alfonso X el Sabio University campus (UAX) in Villanueva de la Cañada have opened their doors after a transformation that offers a more open and brighter image, with an outstanding commitment to the newest technological equipment.

A contemporary interior that embraces digital teaching.

The new classrooms offer excellent continuity and spatial permeability to the complex through a “floating surface” of sound-absorbing louvres independent to the partition, thus creating a continuous and fluid space.

The new faculty spaces, which are open and transparent now, have gone through a transformation to promote teamwork among teachers and a close collaboration with students. These spaces are developed radially, starting, from the red brick patio to the outer perimeter; from the most public areas, such as the high tables around the patio meant for working with an agile methodology, followed by the teamwork tables, to the most private spaces, such as individual offices, all of them having excellent acoustic comfort that favors work and concentration.

This new educational and health campus will be located in the heart of Pueblo Bávaro, a mixed-use area of approximately 5.4M square feet. The project’s first phase will develop the design of a master plan to offer a solution that will lead to an innovative solution model that will serve as a reference for the entire Dominican Republic.

The concept of the project is about carrying out a unique and ambitious idea, joining in an unprecedented model of different uses: health, training and information, within a framework of shared and innovative development, which allows a harmonious coexistence of the various services and transforming the space into an urban catalyst of the environment: a Clinic Express or Primary Care Center under the “walk-in clinic” model; a General Hospital Center; a hub that groups the Medical Offices, Laboratory and Pharmacy; and a stand-alone Convention Center.

The resulting layout aims to show a homogeneous image of the intervention, structured along axes, flexible and contemplating the possibility of future growth. In addition, it seeks to create a sustainable and profitable service, proposing a functional, feasible, atypical model that provides added value to its environment, which stands out for its excellence and is, above all, profitable.

The new UAX campus in Malaga aims to become an icon, a meeting point for the community and a model of mutual exchange with the environment. Located in a constantly developing area the complex not only takes inspiration from the surrounding landscape but also contributes programmatic features to the city.

The design favours a flexible educational model of interconnection between the citizen and the city, as well as between students and faculty; a model for the university of the future based on research into specific user needs.

By means of a natural system that leaves behind physical barriers, a gradation is proposed from the exterior, which looks almost opaque, to a permeable and luminous interior. On a macro scale, a large central axis connects two urban landmarks, freeing up a series of public spaces or squares around which the main volumes are organized. On an interior scale, each of these volumes has large, high atriums, which serve as meeting points for students and teachers, and are accessed through covered patios. This gradient space makes the program more flexible and allows for an exchange of uses between indoors and outdoors. The whole system ensures the possibility of future growth.

In addition, through a rigorous study of sunlight with specialized software, a strategic shading element has been designed to accompany the volumes at different heights, reducing direct solar incidence by up to 60%, in a quest for energy efficiency. This attitude positions the campus as a candidate for the first LEED Zero certification of its kind.

The need to cover a large surface over a river became a great conflict with the project’s sustainability; therefore, the solution was to design a fully open structure in all its extension.

The structure, composed of a range of sloping arches that fall in series and weave between them, gives shape to a surface that envelopes, shades, and hosts the platform that articulates all the levels of the project.

The arch sequence defines the diverse support points for the ramp. This fiberglass structure creates a wrapping that defines an open and protected space.

The pavilion is delicately integrated into the riverside topography, allowing visitors to enjoy the spaces in the bridge and the landscape around it.

luis vidal + architects has signed a transformative and pioneering project destined to symbolize the city of Madrid: the new Colón Towers: a building designed to exceed environmental, social, and economic standards, and to become a piece for international reference.

The environmental responsibility that characterizes all the work by luis vidal + architects enables the new Colón Towers to become the first nearly zero-emissions business tower in Spain, as well as the most sustainable and technologically advanced office building in the capital.

The pillars of the project, for which exhaustive documentation and monitoring has been carried out, are: the well-being of users, the reduction of the carbon footprint, and technology.

Many actions have been carried out in order to achieve this level of excellence, including a 40% increase in natural ventilation, the use of natural light and materials without any volatile components, lighting control by the user through mobile devices, a high-efficiency façade that improves the thermal and acoustic behavior of the building, and landscaped outdoor spaces. In addition to having a versatile auditorium, its sky office with outdoor patio allows visitors to enjoy a spectacular 360º view above the city of Madrid.

The building have four new office floors, despite the fact that the height (117 meters) and buildability of the towers remain the same, as required by the General Directorate of Building Control. Its current surface area is 218,500 sq. ft. The new Colón Towers now become a legacy for future generations and an engine of urban revitalization. The new design was approved by the Madrid City Council’s Commission for the Protection of the Historical-Artistic and Natural Heritage. The new Colón Towers contribute to revitalizing and modernizing the image of an emblematic area of the city.

Only a powerful identity can turn the invisible visible, but architecture can bring a building to life and make it shine. On these pillars, luis vidal + architects set out to transform the offices of Castellana 77. A building that lost its identity and market value over four decades has become a real estate jewel in the financial heart of Madrid. The result is a flexible space with a prominent, efficient identity, which has become the second most expensive square meter in Azca, Madrid’s premium office district.

For this project, with light as the true protagonist, the practice has used a textile material called ETFE in an innovative way, creating a skin that allows for the entrance of light but not heat. A backlit wrapping of hundreds of louvres with different curvatures protects the building from the brightest hours of sunlight while maximizing user comfort and projecting a powerful image. To tame the light without being defeated by it; a 21st-century Icarus designed to beat the sun.

The Palmas Altas technology center has been designed as a benchmark in sustainable architecture, a goal that has been met by obtaining the first LEED Platinum certification in Europe.

This project exceeds the usual features of a business park and becomes an real compact community that organizes around a square. The campus offers spaces that have a strong sense of cohesion, being designed in a way that encourages interaction and collaboration among workers.

Likewise, the scale of the buildings ensures an excellent quality of life for its users by bathing the indoor spaces with natural light and natural ventilation, and placing louvres on the facades to filter the entry of excessive light. Each building connects the spaces vertically on the outside through an atrium that acts as a unifying central courtyard.

The project integrates state-of-the-art environmental technologies, such as photovoltaic panels, a trigeneration plant, hydrogen batteries, and efficient air conditioning and lighting systems. Energy-saving criteria is also applied through all aspects of the design: from the geometry of the building, which is based on compact forms, to the envelope composition of the structure and the distribution and layout of solar-control devices, to the choice of materials.

The result is an innovative construction designed for pedestrian use, which is becoming the standard for the office typology of the future.

Studio Legal Tower is a two-phase project that aims to become a referent of innovation in the workspace and residential experience in the Dominican Republic. The first phase consists of an intervention in the current Studio Legal offices to transform and enhance the firm’s image; the second one comprises the construction of a unique corporate building, a mixed-use tower that integrates residential, commercial and office use.

This new corporate tower, located in downtown Santo Domingo, stands out for the flexibility of its spaces, which take into account different users’ needs. In addition, its volume is sculpted so that the street front is higher than the rest of its surroundings to offer a slimmer street view image while emphasizing the vertical character of the element. Therefore, the massing achieved is a double-faced volume that meets both an aesthetic and a functional consideration.

The building is covered with a transparent, light, reflecting skin that mirrors the firm’s corporate spirit. Its double layer of glass and mesh is a solar control element. It is part of the sustainability strategy tailored for the tower, which will reduce energy consumption and increase energy efficiency.

The outcome will be a modern, dynamic building that will reflect Studio Legal’s growth process and company values.

Located in the heart of the Colonial City of Santo Domingo, the project balances tradition and modernity while preserving the heritage value of an historical building, and introducing flexibility for future demands. The two stories of the building are organized around the iconic courtyard of its time, a visual and acoustic background that facilitates ventilation and natural lighting, creating a pleasant environment with biophilic elements (water and vegetation), as well as the use of textures. The first level acts as a welcoming, meeting and service area, with a large staircase leading to the second level, where an open space houses the main work area. The integration of internal and external spaces is achieved through a glazed archway with the original French ironwork restored.

The renovated building incorporates sustainable practices such as air and water purification systems, the reduction and recycling of water, and the use of sustainability-certified materials, aiming for a LEED rating. The use of bicycles is encouraged through the provision of showers and restrooms, and energy consumption is improved via solar panels on the that are installed on the roof. This approach makes Hostos 207 a national and international sustainability benchmark for its heritage character.

The project seeks to add value to a plot located in one of the main arteries of Santo Domingo through what will be a unique project, with the vocation of becoming a new social meeting point for the city. The project aims to make its users live a completely new experience different from what the other buildings that share a similar program offer. We focus on the client, offering him added value so he can differentiate himself from the competition and become a leader in the sector.

The project is defined by a powerful and unique identity and a committed social character and environmental responsibility through a phased model that allows controlled growth linked to a flexible and mutable functional program. The result is no other than an iconic and innovative building.

The building aims to create a space with a substantial and measurable impact on users, enhancing their productivity and creativity. This type of architectural design improves the well-being of citizens, helping them feel in harmony with the surrounding environment.

The proposal seeks to provide this important area with new spaces for circulation.

The project is based on the creation of a square and a public park, whose shape has the effect of widening and linking the geometry of the different grids to obtain an ordered structure of roads and accommodating new residential buildings.

The high demand for residential buildings is the other great design challenge. Therefore, the layout of the buildings is determined by logical environmental criteria: the amount of sunlight and protection from prevailing winds.

This project involves developing the landscaping and architectural design of the Chagual Botanical Garden, located in the Metropolitan Park of Santiago. Expanding across more than 700 hectares of land, it is the fourth largest urban park in the world, and it is located near the city center, on the banks of the Mapocho River.

The landscaping design covers approximately 45 hectares of the total area of the gardens. It incorporates a combination of plants that builds native landscapes using Mediterranean species from four parts of the world. Its mission is to promote the development of a culture of nature that values the natural heritage of central Chile and to display its species and ecosystems, thus promoting their study and disseminating their importance, incentivizing conservation and cultivation.

The scope of the architectural tender includes the design of the main buildings within the Botanical Garden, consisting of 51,650 square feet of constructed area in two separate phases.

The developed proposal looks for a way to structure the entire experience, defining a path to wander and position oneself on the hillside so that the visitor can visualize and understand a complete story that integrates botanical contents and the geographical characteristics of the area, as well as its relationship with the city and the Mapuche cosmogony.

The main buildings have been strategically located to create an accessible route through the garden and a natural flow to the places of interest. How the buildings are laid out helps generate different instances along the journey, such as the direct relationship with the land, the appreciation of the landscape from above, the immersion in the vegetation and the creation of rest areas.

In the absence of a Land Management Plan to regulate the three districts of the Distrito Nacional, the new Masterplan will ensure the orderly development of what may be the last significant area of undeveloped land in the city.

Therefore, we are working on promoting an ambitious project that offers a unique buying opportunity and a development without precedent. Besides being unifying, flexible, sustainable and eco-friendly, it is, above all, distinctive and innovative, with an added value that will turn it into a landmark. This focal point for activities will produce synergies and become attractive for both residents and visitors.

In addition to containing a unique residential development, the Masterplan will create what could become one of the most important centers of commercial, institutional and leisure facilities in the entire Distrito Nacional. From consolidating and generating a new facade front on both sides of the Avda. República de Colombia will achieve not only an increase in the land value of these plots but also that of all around them.

The project is organized in two areas differentiated by their use and location:

• Reserva Los Robles: This is a predominantly residential development on lands with the highest environmental value. A unique place to live in harmony with nature, surrounded by an essential green ecosystem. The project started with the original design of the architect Rafael Selman.

• Tertiary, Commercial and Services Area of Los Robles: in the land located on both sides of Avda. República de Colombia, with part facing the new American Embassy and part acting as the front of the new residential development.

The P.E.T.O.T. (Urban and Territory Strategic Plan) is a planning tool designed to transform 54,857 acres of land in the North of Samaná Peninsula into a new urban landmark with its own character and identity. The main goal is to turn this area into a landmark recognizable both nationally as a place to gather and internationally as a new destination.

In PHASE 1, the strategy was defined by establishing the following guidelines:

1 Connectivity: making Samaná a connected area where pedestrians play a central role the public realm.

2 Diversity: Samaná Peninsula aims to be a diverse territory where coastal tourism is combined with mountain and landscape tourist attractions.

3 Community: Samaná will be supplied with a complete-multifunctional equipment system.

As a next step and considering different scales, PHASE 2 settles down a proposal containing a territory and tourism model based on protecting and enhancing landscape and natural resources. This phase establishes a sustainable transport and mobility network that improves global accessibility to the area while pointing out the preferred location of both local and general equipment and facilities that aim to enrich residents’ and visitors’ quality of life.

The Tourism and Complementary Services Masterplan in Macao, on the Dominican East Coast, is an innovative project, which under a global structuring idea of maintaining the Mangrove, offers a flexible and adaptable proposal for any future investment expectations.

The action covers an area of 1,828 acres in a field of natural expansion. The goal of the project is to carry out an unprecedented intervention at the environmental level, which not only responds to the multiple development opportunities that the area allows —leaving open the profile of future investors and the product they intend to implement— but, on top of that, put the Mangrove and the vegetation on the center of the design, not only preserving it but also enhancing its revitalization.

From these lines of action, luis vidal + architects has created an exclusive and innovative design methodology that transforms it into a ‘board game’ with the following guidelines:

– The board game represents the site and all the fixed and structuring conditions of the project, including the lines of action.

– The cards are a catalog of cells on which the investors choose (size, number of building levels, location, etc.).

– The players are, on the one hand, the investors who choose the type of pieces and where to place them on the ground from the previous conditions and, on the other, luis vidal + architects who, through a parameterization system, will specify the zoning of uses and land occupation.

The renovation of Jones Plaza is presented as a revitalizing element for the city around it.

Within the urban fabric of the city of Houston, the intention is to create a focal point for its inhabitants, providing a nerve center for the downtown arts and theatres with a recreational space non-existent until now in the city.

The citizen will once again enjoy the current Plaza through its expansion and the elimination of parking areas. The new Plaza integrates with the surrounding buildings and removes elements that have fallen into disuse. The restaurant areas, open to the center of the square, are integrated into the space, focusing on the development of different artistic expressions.

The new Plaza project aims to become a unique focal point within the city of Houston. Becoming part of the network of public spaces that seek to reclaim the city for the pedestrian.

Urban Regeneration and Master Planning Award. MIPIM Future Projects Awards 2009.

The project proposes reconnecting the city and reviving the most disadvantaged areas through intensive land use and mixed-use systems.
The incorporation of a single and continuous boulevard, more than 2,5 miles long and up to 200 feet wide, is proposed, combining elements that will enrich the social and cultural life of the city.

A pedestrian promenade through green spaces and small parks, a bicycle path, an area for new urban facilities, and a corridor to incorporate a new public transport system. A doubly sustainable project in terms of environmental design and economy.

The Anboto Tower, located in the Garellano area in Bilbao, will be the last tower to be completed by the Garellano masterplan proposed by RSHP and luis vidal + architects in 2009. An unprecedented residential tower in Spain with a unique design that will be integrated between the city’s different modern and nineteenth-century urban fabrics. This tower will be the first residential building in the country for both the RSHP practice and for luis vidal + architects.

The tower will have a total height of 114 meters above ground level with 35 floors, making it the tallest residential building in the Basque Country and the second tallest in Bilbao, just behind the 165-meter Iberdrola office tower. The ground, first and second floors form the plinth of the building, with a total area of approximately 53,820 square feet, and will be intended for commercial use. The 322,917 square feet tower will house 32 floors with 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes with designs that maximize space and take advantage of every inch. However, each owner will be able to choose the finishes and modify the plan, so the results will be 166 unique homes made to measure.

A design for the commercial area will also be pre-established so that the building does not lose its identity and remains with a unique design over time. The design of the Anboto Tower enhances the use of natural light. The East and West façades are formed by curtain walls clad in aluminum in copper colors, present in the city, giving a particular aesthetic to the building due to its glare and reflections.

This residential tower revalues the entire area, providing the city with a unique architecture and image.

The main hallmarks of this residence, with its 360º view across the Dye Fore Golf Course and the town of Altos de Chavón, include its integration with the natural environment and an enveloping roof, unifying the complex.

Following the guiding principles of a subtle and friendly connection between nature and architecture, the project comes to life around a reading room surrounded by a tropical garden, with the two-story residence and basement leading from it.

Volumetrically, it consists of one floor, radially fragmented to distribute and divide the different living and service areas. This programmatic strategy can be seen in the spaces and solids created by the interior volumes that seem to flow from the reading room itself, the roof of which also houses a sky observatory.

The roof structure simulating a large palm tree, built in Glulam wood, consists of a permeable pergola that gives shade and extends into the villa, adjusting its height to become closer and more homely wherever necessary.

The garden connects to its surroundings, hosting only plants native to the island. Nature merges with non-natural elements, and the outdoor areas are filled with vegetation and integrated with the house.

Our strategic approach to this project focuses on the hotel’s final user and the key moments of his experience to generate an appropriate atmosphere in each moment, creating calm, without stress, surprising and high-quality spaces. For this hotel experience, we have created an appealing transition between the city and the personal realm, between the trip and the leisure time. We are establishing three critical levels of approach in a zoom-in style.

1. THE LOCATION within the city. Being the location one of the values of the project, in the most exciting, dynamic, vibrant and active area of Madrid.

2. THE ACCESS is conceived as a transition space between the city and the hotel. The challenge is to transform the access from Montera into an exciting area, causing an impact on the customer’s first perception. The surprise effect is guaranteed.

3. THE HOTEL:

• The LOBBY, a space with a different atmosphere where the game of reflections evokes fragments of the city. Two sculptural pieces, the reception desk and the stairs, are this space’s main elements.

• THE COFFEE AREA, located in the basement, is connected to the ground floor through openings in the slab that allow natural light in and a visual connection between floors.

• BEDROOMS, we add value through CUSTOMIZATION. This way, each room will be different, a white canvas that changes color through the lighting.

4. THE TERRACE, Along with the location, with stunning views of the Puerta del Sol, is one of the great values of the hotel.

luis vidal + architects addressed the challenge of developing the interior design of the Arola Restaurant in Madrid in a space designed by the architect Jean Nouvel, B-720 and Alberto Medem, under the lower deck of the auditorium. Located on the ground floor, with views towards the Ronda de Atocha, this establishment is characterized by its spaciousness and for being a meeting point with different kinds of uses.

The proposal of luis vidal + architects is inspired by the diversity of the space, ‘colonizing’ it peacefully through a great variety of volumes, materials, textures and colors carefully chosen in the search for an overall balance. Instead of splitting the space with partitions, the concept of ‘table-bands’ was devised, which would separate uses without breaking the comprehensive view. The table-bands, continuous and shining, act as elements of distribution from a central strip that divides the space into a bar and dining areas. As a whole, the table-bands create interrelated micro-landscapes, connected to each other by non-hierarchical decreases in height, creating an organic, changing and versatile continuity between the furniture and the open space of the restaurant. The material used to produce them (HI-MACS®) was chosen for its durability, transparency and quality.

The lighting concept meets the technical requirements of the restaurateur while preserving the “privacy” of each area of the table-bands. The solution consists of rechargeable wireless lamps, which provide high-quality lighting and greater flexibility of use in harmony with the theme of the entire proposal.

Refurbishment and renovation project for the Abengoa corporate offices in its new headquarters at the Palmas Altas Campus in Seville.

This project seeks to highlight the spatial qualities of the buildings and the whole of the headquarters, characterized by a diaphanous floor and a glass enclosure. In addition to creating a pleasant workspace for the user, it meets the client’s requirements for interaction and the communal life of the workers.

These criteria led us to design an office landscape full of natural light through the openings in the façade. The bright, friendly and tranquil spaces invite an excellent working environment. Open plan interiors are defined by a spatial gradation given by the use assigned to them, thus creating a flexible system that works for all the particular cases that were presented.

One of the most outstanding achievements is that the architectural intentions of the project have been realized thanks to the care taken in the choice of interior finishes, furniture and signage, as well as the suitability and coordination of all the facilities.

With the gentle gesture of a curve, clothed in a delicate metal frame and wrapped around itself in concentric circles, there is a pedestrian bridge linking the Technological Center of Palmas Altas with the urban layout of the center of Seville. Below it, the fast bustle of the SE-30 highway turns into a whisper.

Elements characteristic of engineering projects, such as ramps, pillars and panels, only enrich the proposed landscape of the whole environment from the simplicity of their lines.

ANDARA is a residential project within the exclusive development of Cap Cana, right in front of Las Iguanas golf course. Its design establishes a dialogue with the landscape, integrating itself organically and elegantly, like an areca palm leaf or a heliconia flower. Just like these tropical species, Andara’s architecture unfolds fluidly, embracing its surroundings and dialoguing with nature in a harmonious way, respecting light, ventilation and views of the landscape.

The project is articulated in two complementary dimensions: an elevated one, open to the golf course with sweeping panoramic views; and a more introspective one, defined by courtyards with water, vegetation and private terraces. This duality evokes the character of a cenote, where the sobriety and solidity of the outer skin contrasts with an interior of calm, filtered light and enveloping textures.

The spatial organization of the complex allows for a typological diversity that combines the features of both an apartment building with those of the townhouses. This strategy improves the spatial quality of the houses, reinforcing their connection with nature and green areas, as well as with the common areas and outdoor amenities.

The landscape is conceived as a tool to integrate architecture with environment, combining native species with spaces designed for rest and walking. Water, present in pools and mirrors, becomes the main character, bringing a sensorial and climatic dimension to the complex.

More than a building, ANDARA is a living organism, inspired by the exuberance of the Caribbean and designed to coexist with its surroundings, transforming regulatory restrictions into opportunities to create an authentic, unique architecture with its own identity.

The project, designed in partnership with Rogers Stirk Harbour and Partners, won first prize in an international design competition. The project aims to create a user-friendly and humane building that provides a pleasurable experience where users can find their way around easily. The building is conceived as a pleasant space and a meeting point for visitors and workers at the Justice Campus in Madrid, departing from the traditional and preconceived image of this kind of facility. The Multipurpose building houses three uses: a commercial area, restaurants and car parks.

It is a building consistent with the planning objectives, responding to the architectural and aesthetic demands of the surroundings, and stands as the main entrance to the precinct. The proposal recovers the visual importance of a space usually associated with uncomfortable experiences and is dedicated to spending as little time in it as possible. A highly functional project to achieve maximum efficiency of parking and that considers both the quality of space and display of shopping areas and restaurants through the optimization of pedestrian flows.

The proposal for the P-7 incorporates numerous recycled or waste materials, ranging from recycled aggregate for the concrete of the structure and recycled glass, to furniture and fittings made of recycled plastics.

MOOD is a new line of tapware designed by luis vidal + architects.

MOOD presents the essence of water. This new iconic design has been created as a fusion between simplicity and emotion. The faucet line is inspired by natural water flow and aims to reduce water consumption. These faucets stand out due to their original geometric lines, which radiate simplicity and integrity, and create an immediate sense of attraction, inviting users to interact with them. The flat spout of the faucet allows a better water flow and keeps the aerator hidden, improving the user experience.

The design takes advantage of the available technology to reduce complexity and to make daily life a little more comfortable, allowing users to enjoy their environment while, at the same time, making a responsible use of it. The digital control of the faucet has two modes: “sleep” (off) presents the product when it is not being used. A second mode, “awake” (on) activates a series of luminous icons, which invite the user to start browsing through the different options in a very intuitive way. The ‘preset’ functions (previously programmed) allow each user to customize the flow rates and temperatures for other uses.

The design has been developed to offer an intuitive, simple, and straightforward use, ensuring that the water usage adjusts to each function. The icons humanize the technical component of the interface, making the use of the faucet very easy.

Bathrooms have undergone few changes since their ‘invention’ in the 19th century. After incorporating the lavatory, they quickly evolved into a space with tiled walls and floors with porcelain toilets.

From this simple definition began a ‘process’ of bathroom design in which architects, or their clients, selected, on the one hand, the ceramic tiles for the walls and floor and, on the other hand, the accessories to be installed on both surfaces. Nowadays, sanitary lines and accessories related to them are selected from a vast range of products, thus creating a ‘pick ’n mix’ approach. Still, nonetheless, the spatial configuration has long remained unchanged.

Our concept revolves around integrating the wall surface and the embedded ceramic elements, the two critical components in the bathroom. We intend to create a small, individual space for each sanitary element: bathtub, sink, and toilet. The ceramic pieces are standard and restrained, while the auxiliary components present enormous flexibility in terms of design and optional bathroom fittings (storage, towel racks, mirrors, etc.). By developing this concept, we have found not just one solution but the key to an infinite range of options.

Therefore, our analysis has focused on the possibility of radically changing the perception and architectural composition of bathrooms. We are principally wondering if we could contribute to reinventing the product by merging the two fields in which Porcelanosa and Noken are experienced.

The Clover Table revolutionizes the relationship between diners. Its curves bring them closer, improving the experience of dialog and conversation that accompanies meals.

The surface of the Clover Table, almost a mirror, seems to “float”, resting on shortened legs that look like old leather straps that defy the laws of gravity with their sinuous shape. Furthermore, the curved shape of the top allows a modular system, counterbalancing each other with an almost limitless layout.

2D-4D is an iconic housing project; luis vidal + architects works on architecture that responds to the wishes and needs of users while adjusting to the possibilities of space and future challenges. It is impossible to imagine what kind of technology will be used within 35 years, but it is possible to re-think the housing space in terms of volume without the limit of two dimensions. The next milestone will be measuring a house in cubic meters rather than square meters.

Therefore, the house of the future project carried out by luis vidal + architects today holds great potential to evolve with its inhabitants, the new city structures, technologies, social needs and safety matters. A 21st-century domestic interior needs flexibility, storage, and comfort. An easy-to-use modular design with a volumetric surface area where natural light affects the correlation between the environment and interior design becomes essential.

The design of a high-voltage pylon requires working with:

The design of a high-voltage pylon means working with movement. Therefore, a changing structure is proposed, which is modified depending on the point of view of the observer, if you are near or far away, if you are moving or standing still. A structure that changes over time.
