When “the luxury of well-made things” becomes an habit, the artisans who make it possible need a physical space to protects and enhance their work. The LOEWE Campus of Excellence, designed by luis vidal + architects, is a one-of-a-kind ecosystem that brings talent together and boosts knowledge, while maintaining functionality. It is based on the simplicity, fluidity and constructive elegance of the vaults, configuring them in a parallel pattern and adapting their width and height in order to meet the technical requirements, as well as the spatial and environmental needs of the program. Underneath these vaults, some pairs of crossed arches support a perforated ceramic skin that allows the entry of natural light. The overhang of the roof over the outdoor spaces creates a sense of lightness common to the whole building, while acting as a protection element to the façade. Meanwhile, the vaults are staggered in different scales to reach the free heights that are needed in the production and storage spaces. The overall result of the volume is an exercise of visual connectivity, human scale and spatial diversity. A responsible response to the environmental values that reflects LOEWE’s unique essence and becomes an ethical and aesthetic benchmark for future generations.
