“Architecture does not improve when decisions are made faster, but when they are made better.”

In his opinion piece for EL ESPAÑOL, Luis Vidal reflects on the role of Artificial Intelligence in architecture and on one essential idea: technology can broaden our capacity for analysis, but it cannot replace the judgment, sensitivity or responsibility of the architect.

AI allows us to work with more information, reduce uncertainties and optimize processes. But architecture remains a profoundly human discipline: it interprets places, communities, memories, climates, materials and ways of living.

Because to design is not merely to solve a technical problem. It is to decide with knowledge, experience and commitment.

Artificial Intelligence can support. It can inform. It can open new possibilities. But it is still the architect who gives meaning to the space we inhabit.

Pittsburgh International Airport has been recognized by Prix Versailles among The World’s Most Beautiful Airports.
Conceived as a pavilion in Penn’s Woods, the new terminal brings together nature, technology and community to create an airport experience deeply connected to place.

This marks the third Prix Versailles recognition for airport projects by luis vidal + architects, following Santiago de Chile Airport in 2023 and Boston Logan Terminal E in 2024.

Three airports. Three recognitions. One vision.

This morning, Spanish newspaper El Mundo published an extensive feature on the future Puerta de Hierro Hospital, set to become the world’s first public hospital dedicated to the residential care of ALS patients, whose transformation project has been designed by luis vidal + architects.

A deeply human project aimed at creating an environment fully adapted to the needs of patients and their families, bringing together architecture, wellbeing, technology and nature to redefine long-term care.

We are truly excited to be part of a project with such meaningful social impact.

The new Pittsburgh International Airport redefines what airport infrastructure can be.

As highlighted by Metropolis Magazine, the project shifts away from the traditional hub model to become a true front door to the region—focused on clarity, comfort, and a strong sense of place.

Within this vision, the Petal Tunnel, designed by luis vidal + architects, stands out as one of the most distinctive moments of the journey: an immersive transition where light, form, and movement come together to connect architecture with landscape.

We are proud to share that Luis Vidal + Architects | ZJA Architects & Engineers — the international collaboration between Luis Vidal + Architects and ZJA Architects & Engineers — will play a key role in the large-scale renewal of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.

Following an architectural selection process launched at the end of 2024 that attracted strong international interest, three of the airport’s four areas have now been definitively awarded to Luis Vidal + Architects | ZJA Architects & Engineers. The commission includes the design of Schiphol Plaza, including the lounges, the airport piers, gates and flow areas, as well as the landside passenger areas and parking facilities. For the landscape design, DELVA Landscape Architecture + Urbanism will join Luis Vidal + Architects | ZJA Architects & Engineers.

After a decade of new and extraordinary works all over the world, luis vidal + architects releases a new book: Expect the Unexpected.

Philip Jodidio, renowned architecture writer, gives voice to this monograph that covers the Practice’s work over the last 10 years, accompanied by some spectacular images by Ema Peters, among other prominent photographers. A book to discover some of the best airport, hospital and office projects of one of the leading international architecture practices.

The New Colon Towers, a design by luis vidal + architects at the forefront of international architecture, jusr appeared on TVE. In a section of the most representative news program, Luis Vidal has explained this project that has already become a sustainability benchmark in Madrid.

As architects specialized in airport design, we’re thrilled to have won the World’s Most Beautiful Airport Award from Prix Versailles for two years in a row, this time for our work on the Boston Logan Terminal E Modernization. In words of Jérôme Gouadain, Secretary General of the Prix Versailles: “Preserving a territory’s heritage resources – natural, cultural and social – is vital to developing sustainable tourism. We are witnessing an exciting development in the world of aviation and tourism that goes in line with the recent opening of Terminal E in Boston, an insfrastructure that enhances the travel experience for its passengers. This morning, the prestigious Spanish newspaper ABC launched a special edition dedicated to the FITUR fair in Madrid –a key event that has set the latest trends in the global tourism sector– and opens the booklet with this piece on Boston Logan’s new terminal, presented as a case study for the future of tourism.

The prominent design magazine dezeen has written about Boston Logan’s new Terminal E, highlighting, among many other features, the brand new Boston Red color that turns it into an icon for the city.

Terminal E sets a new standard in airport design, proving that form and function can coexist beautifully. The newly redesigned terminal is being defined as awe-inspiring, a bold blend of elegance and practicality that elevates the travel experience.

The new Terminal E at Boston Logan International Airport has once again been featured in a prestigious international medium. This time, Arquitectura Viva – one of the most impactful Spanish architectural magazines – has been the one to publish an article on the terminal.

Architectural Record, one of the most renowned industry magazines, has published a case study on Boston Logan’s new Terminal E. Under the title “Paint the Town Red”, and within the Transportation & Infrastructure section – with a picture of the project on its front page – the piece praises once again into the passenger-oriented design and its unique Boston Red color.

The report, on the cover of “Papel” supplement of the Spanish newspaper, highlights Luis Vidal’s vision of the future its “humanization”, highlighting the freedom it grants the user during their time at the terminal, as well as the use of elements such as color as to improve the traveler’s experience.

The Wall Street Journal has chosen Boston Logan’s New Terminal E as one of the best pieces of architecture in 2023: “There is no question that it stands among the exceptional buildings of 2023” claims the newspaper, which reaches over 3.4 million readers everyday.

The Boston Globe, the most important physical and digital media of the capital of Massachusetts, has once again complimented Logan’s new Terminal E, where luis vidal + architects has played a key role as Design Architects.

On the occasion of its inauguration, the newspaper talks about an enhanced user experience, and the comfort and enthusiasm that the terminal brings to the traveler, emphasizing the striking red color – and not just any red, the Boston Red shade is a prismatic color created ad hoc by Luis Vidal in the Swiss laboratories Monopol for this project – that covers its roof.

Thus, the modernization of Terminal E of one of the most important airports in the country, an intervention by luis vidal + architects and AECOM, begins to reap success just a few days days after its grand opening.

The new International Terminal of Arturo Merino Benítez Airport, in Santiago de Chile, has once again been featured in a medium specialized in architecture.

This time, it is Proarquitectura (a leading monthly physical and digital publication in the Spanish market) that has published an article about the terminal building, which opened its doors in February 2022.

The piece highlights qualities such as natural lighting, signage that favors intuitive wayfinding for users, and the environmental sustainability of the project. All of which are already hallmark qualities of luis vidal + architects in each of their proposals.

El Español, 2022’s leader with national audiences and the most-read medium in 10 out of the country’s 17 publications, has just published an extensive article about Luis Vidal and his latest airport, the brand new Terminal E of Boston Logan.

The interview, published by El Cultural in its weekly section for art and architecture, praises Vidal’s career and his futuristic vision on airports – the cathedrals of the 21^st century.
