Daroca Housing

The project seeks to create a proposal for redistribution of the land located on Avenida Daroca in accordance with specific urban regulations and in line with their particular characteristics.

The land is divided into four units, one of which is exclusively used for public green spaces. These green areas are conceived as an extension of the sidewalk, using the paving to demarcate the leisure areas, playgrounds, and open spaces with trees, aromatic shrubbery, lawn, and a shallow pond. A multiuse zone and common space is created that requires little maintenance and serves as a recreation and meeting area for the residents of the complex. Each area is also delimited by horizontal planes at several levels, allowing access to public facilities through those green spaces.

The project consists of two residential blocks of public housing with non-residential land in the middle. The houses have a very flexible design to incorporate a new concept of “a room and a half” and thus be able to adapt better to future changes.

The public facility building will be probably be a retirement home. Its strategic location in the center of the complex has been designed to encourage an interaction between all the residents. The mono-functional scale is thus abandoned in search of a mix of uses that not only serve as an anchor, but also provide vitality and variety in the urban fabric.
