The Practice

Sustainable Facades

Research and development grant from the Chamber of Architects of Palma de Mallorca, for research on sustainable and low-cost facades.

The research was developed around three themes:

  • Improvement of Materials: Both in their composition and use, studying the manufacturing processes, putting to work and finishing.
  • Study of New Materials: Search for new materials developed under sustainable criteria, such as bamboo, hemp, textile fibers, or Duralmond.
  • Incorporation of Active/Passive Systems into Facades: Considering the facade as a complex system that can be affected by dynamic processes and giving it the capacity to respond to external conditions.

Finalist in the 2009 Sacyr Awards, Environmental Innovation Category.

Use of materials with sustainability criteria such as bamboo, hemp and textile fibers
