Castellana 77

At the cutting edge of sustainability and with a distinctive aesthetic that attracts the eye, the new design of Castellana 77 –acquired by Gmp– is set to become a landmark in the urban landscape of Madrid.

The architectural approach to the facade, with its distinctive and unique shapes that furrow the surface of the building, not only serves an aesthetic purpose but is also energy efficient and sustainable by incorporating slats that protect it from direct sunlight. Each slat has a different orientation, which means that each side of the building looks different from the others.

The enveloping low-emissivity glass frontage with solar control is the result of rigorous research into sunlight and shading on the west, east and south-facing facades at different critical times every day of the year.

This efficient design component not only delivers substantial energy savings, but also provides greater levels of comfort and optimal wellbeing for the occupants and users.

The fact that these distinctive slats on the facade can light up in a wide spectrum of colors at night enhances the visibility and impact of Castellana 77 in its surroundings.

The renovation actions implemented at Castellana 77 included refurbishing facilities and transforming its 18 floors above ground, making the distribution on the ground and lower floor more flexible in order to accommodate offices and commercial outlets. Four floors have been recovered for garage facilities, as well as an additional floor to house the general facilities for the building.

Designed with environmental responsibility at the forefront, the building has already been awarded the prestigious LEED Platinum Pre-certification. The end result following the renovation process is an iconic building in the financial center of Madrid; a new landmark in the capital’s architectural heritage and a symbol of urban and economic regeneration.


Castellana 77 has a total surface area of 25,000 m², distributed in 18 floors above ground and five floors below ground, with more than 200 parking spaces that include an allocation of places for electric vehicles, low emission vehicles and bicycles.
