This ambitious project is to develop a cultural, educational and business hub in Antofagasta, in northern Chile. The proposal is for a large university campus for the North Catholic University (UCN) in co-existence with related companies of the mining sector, where companies could improve their R&D&i with the collaboration of the different university faculties.
To finance this expansion, a residential development is proposed (70,000 m2) based on the actual Master Plan for Antofagasta, together with a commercial development (10,000 m2), a business area (9,000 m2) with space for R&D&i laboratories (4,000 m2) and a sports complex (35,000 m2).
All this development is proposed in the same space that the UCN has earmarked for their future campus. We designed a terraced urban park that compensates for the unevenness of the land, and which makes up for the lack of open spaces in the city, a space dedicated to sports, leisure and culture.
In the terrain of the Ruins of Huanchaca Foundation, the proposal of the contest is resolved and operates autonomously to carry out the rest of the Master Plan. The proposed program is completed with an auditorium, a public square with commercial space on the upper part behind the ruins, without interfering in the visual perception of the national monument.
