In Panguilemo’s sector, located in the Comuna de Talca (10 km away from the city centre), Maule Region, sits La Laguna Medel Education and Labor Enclosure.
The surface of the land consists of a total of 40 Hectares for the construction of the penitentiary. The future establishment has been designed to assume a capacity of 1,852 places, with the capability of expansion up to 2,320 inmates in procedural quality, both imputed and convicted, men and women.
The new penitenciary established as priority objective to reconcile the training and activities of the inmates, with the maximum-security requirements established by Gendarmeria de Chile.
The accessibility to the different dependencies of the enclosure of people with disabilities, both security personnel, relatives and inmates, has been a constant in the project. In this way a design tailored to the needs of all users living in the enclosure, whether internal, officials or visitors, whose result is an enclosure that meets all the human elements involved to give the best social response from an architectural point of view.
