We have just
inaugurated the expansion of the Cibao International Airport in the Dominican
Republic, a pioneering project for the Caribbean region, at the same level as some of
the most ambitious international airport
projects.
Luis Abinader, president
of the Dominican Republic, led the act, breaking ground and calling the intervention "important" and
"necessary" for the prosperous development of the northern region of the country. By his side, Óscar
Torrejón (CEO and partner of luis vidal + architects), presented the design and
talked about the details of this expansion.
The intervention, requiring an investment of 300 million dollars,
will provide the airport with more space
for aircraft parking and expand the existing
runway. It will improve the overall traveller experience within the terminal,
allowing for double the number of passengers that currently cross the threshold
to the Caribbean region every year. All of this, while manifesting the sustainable attitude
that characterizes each of our designs.
With this project,
Santiago de los Caballeros joins the list of cities in which luis vidal +
architects leads the airport sector, alongside other urban areas such as Boston, Pittsburgh and Dallas.
